Sparklets Type D - re-plated head and mesh

These styles of soda syphon/seltzer bottle were originally marketed in the period between about 1930 and 1955 and were made with a high quality hand blown Czech glass body, covered by a braided steel mesh coat for safety.  They had a chromed metal collar and, unlike the earlier Type C, the CO2 capsule and key do not need to be left in place during use.  Original examples of this soda syphon, which came in two main types (one with a flat base and the other with an "elephants foot" shaped pedestal foot) have now been fully restored to recreate how they would have looked when originally marketed, with all the glitz and glamour of sparkling chrome and bright nickel.

A HD video showing examples of the two types of type D syphon (and a type C) has been put onto YouTube to show them in all their recreated splendour: https://youtu.be/rItizBU93f8

You can now purchase an example of one of these syphons; the example shown here has a chrome plated top-cap, as would have been supplied originally when this was made.

The syphon is supplied with a modern glass dip-tube/straw and original charger key of the type originally supplied with this model of syphon.  A replacement red "max fill" line will be inserted under the mesh.

  • This soda syphon has been cleaned both internally and externally during the reconditioning process and all the rubber seals used in the head have been replaced with modern re-made equivalents.  Where possible, the original components have been reconditioned but where broken parts were found specially re-manufactured items may have been used.

The capacity of this syphon is nominally 1 US quart or 950ml of soda water.  Care should be taken not to overfill the syphon with water (or gas; only use 1 CO2 capsule) during charging as this may lead to a potentially dangerous mal-operation of the syphon and substantial high-pressure leaks. Each syphon comes with an one year return-to-base guarantee.

  • It may be possible to have the head and mesh of the body plated in metals other than chrome or nickel.  Options being considered are: Silver, Bright Gold, Antique Gold, Grey Palladium, Platinum.
